Ashlee Simpson can do no wrong

In my eyes, Ashlee Simpson can do no wrong style-wise right now. How cute is this outfit? She actually dresses quite simply but everything is right up to the minute. Skinny black jeans, quilted Balenciaga, striped sweater...a perfect fall outfit!

The look for less

Kate Moss looked fantastic strolling down Bond Street in London earlier this week in this get-up. I can't get enough of sweater dresses. Here's your chance to get Kate's look for less. ASOS have produced a great version for £35. Use the code righttrack2006 for 15% off.

Paris Hilton: French Vogue

Paris Hilton is on the front of the new issue of French Vogue. I'm guessing this shot is supposed to provocative or 'arty'. I don't like it. The white cut off ribbed vest, which leaves way too little to the imagination, just does not work for me. Nor do I like the hair or make-up. What happened to the classy elegant shots that usually grace the cover of Vogue?

New season bag watch

You're either a girl who lusts after handbags or a girl who lusts after shoes. I most definitely get more excited about bags, which is a little strange considering I didn't even own a handbag until I reached 19 because I felt stupid carrying one! Now, age 24, if I won the lottery, I'd head straight to the ground floor of Harvey Nichols in Manchester, even before I'd told my family the good news. Here's my take on a few of the current contenders.

The Fendi B Bag (priced at around £1600) has had a huge celebrity following. I'm not sure whether that's necessarily a good thing. Sure, it means the fashion world has taken notice of the Fendi B, but would you really want to carry a bag that everyone else has? Colleen McLoughlin has it in three different colours! I love the much more understated Miu Miu Calfskin Bag - it encapsulates a huge trend in bags we've seen this year...black leather with gold hardware.

The Dior Gaucho is what I would call an 'IT' bag. It's funky and edgy. I particularly like the added touches...the 'Dior' engraved buckle, the key and coin charms. This is about as far away from Dior's girly logo ranges that they could possibly get. I'm so glad Dior finally produced something unique and the calfskin leather on these beauties is just amazing.

Thank God for Chloe. And now Thank God for the Chloe 'Edith'. I have no doubt in my mind that this will become a classic. It looks best in the Whiskey colour pictured. Roomy, versatile, and a 'match with everything' kind of bag.

I'm always on the look out for a handbag that's a little bit different. You know, those bags that make it quite clear they are gloriously expensive, but which don't immediately scream one of the big designer names. The type of bag that will cause passers by to grab you by the arm and gasp "where did you get that bag?!". This grey Jas MB 'Slitter' Bag fits into this category and can be found at Barneys for the reasonable price of $465. I keep feeling drawn to the Bulga bag, made somewhat famous by Jessica Simpson, and I think this burnt orange shade is perfect for autumn and winter.

Your style icon is Kate Moss

A few weeks ago we started a poll to establish 'Who is your style icon'. It was certainly not a one woman race and the top three could barely be separated. 220 votes later and the celeb with the most votes (20%) is Kate Moss, with Jessica Simpson a close second (19%) and the gorgeous Rachel Bilson (18%) coming third. Kate was always going to be the obvious choice and to so many women across the globe she is undoubtedly their style icon. Kate Moss wasn't my top choice. My vote went to Rachel Bilson. Yes, I always think Kate looks fantastic but that's partly because I truly think she could look good in anything. I rarely take inspiration from her outfits because I know for sure they just wouldn't work for me!

Kate Moss has appeared in a staggering 14 ad campaigns this year (most recently Cavalli pictured below) netting her in the region of £30 million pounds. She has graced 15 magazine covers during 2006 (interestingly this is still not as many as Victoria Beckham who has 25 under her belt) and popped up on numerous most powerful people lists. Kate Moss has always been a trendsetter - Kate wore skinny jeans and the whole world wanted to wear skinny jeans. She has achieved the kind of longevity that most celebrities can only dream of and her air of mystery gives her the edge over most other leading ladies in the industry today.

Coats by George at Asda

If you still haven't purchased your winter coat then it could be worth you heading down to George at Asda. They are currently offering 20% off their range of coats until 29th October. This means that (unbelievably!) each of these stunning coats would set you back just £32. Yes, I said £32. I can't imagine a better bargain out there. I really love the houndstooth coat on the left, which will be available from 23rd October. I imagine this will be really popular, sell out quick and probably pop up on eBay.

Celebrity fashion find

I absolutely love this chunky knit cardigan that Lauren from MTV's Laguna Beach wore a few days ago. It's by Joie, available in grey or brown for $315 at shopbop - pricey but so gorgeous! Please post a comment if you've seen a retailer with this in cream.

Topshop is having a bad week

What is going on at topshop this week? I've never seen such a bunch of ugly items appearing on the site in just one day! Jane Shepherdson, the Brand Director acreddited with turning Topshop round has recently resigned, amid speculation that she had clashed with the chain's owner Sir Phillip Green. Perhaps this was her last revenge - send nasty garments (also priced very expensively) out into the market as a way of showing that Topshop will not be the same without her! So here we have it...ugly green dress £45 and foil leggings £15. I can barely believe my eyes.

Peep toe ankle boots £75 (what a ridiculous concept!) and polyester leopard print dress £45.

Ashlee Simpson has evolved

Remember the days when Ashlee was a little punk rocker with black ratty hair? Well just look at her now. I actually get excited about seeing new photos of Ashlee as it's a given that she'll be dressed stylishly. I love this recent outfit.

Victoria Beckham branches out

You will all be aware that Victoria Beckham has lent her name to a range of jeans produced by US label, Rock and Republic, in a collaboration that has netted her £250,000 for each year of the contract. Rock & Republic have always been quick to quash talk that they are purely using Victoria's name to promote the brand and have made it clear that she has had a lot of creative input into the range.

Victoria has now split from Rock and Republic which is probably in light of the recent announcement that she will be branching out on her own. Victoria and David will jointly be launching their own jeans label called VDB. It appears Victoria is now intent on a career in fashion which may also simultaneously allow her to further build the Beckham brand worldwide. I don't like the name...'Beckham' would have been better than 'VDB'. Would any of you buy from this range?
Victoria Beckham for Rock & Republic jeans can be purchased for the huge price of £300 at ASOS.

Handbag of the week

Head down to your local Oasis to take a look at this beauty before they all sell out. This dogooth print shoulder bag is also available at the new online Oasis store - an absolute steal at just £18. At that price, who cares if dog tooth is on it's way out come spring?!

I first spotted this whilst out shopping in Manchester a few weeks ago - it looks and feels a lot more expensive than it actually is. I love the slouchy shape and it is the perfect size - not too big but big enough for all your daily essentials.

The new UGG...yay or nay?

Everyone loves Ugg Boots, but what about the new Ugg Australia Rainier Boot, $185 at Shopbop? Do you love them or hate them? Granted, they look cute in this photo, part of the current Shopbop lookbook, but personally I know I couldn't pull these off in 'real-life'.

Who is your style icon?

To celebrate our launch to this new site www.bglam.com I'd like to ask that you all cast your vote on this poll and/or leave a comment. I want to know who your style icon is? I have listed 8 celebrities, who I believe are the current leading ladies in fashion: Kate Bosworth, Rachel Bilson, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie, Victoria Beckham, Gwen Stefani and Kate Moss. Each lady has their own unique style. Do you find that you have a particular style icon that you look to for inspiration? Perhaps it's not one of the ladies I've listed? You'll find the poll in the right sidebar. Get voting!

Balenciaga for £80 per month

I've just been introduced to a great concept - Fashion Hire. Very simply, this web site was set up to rent exclusive designer handbags on a weekly or monthly basis at affordable prices. Considering the price of a designer handbag, this could actually prove very cost effective. It also means that when you get bored, just send it back and choose something else! As i'm a little Balenciaga obsessed I clicked straight through to check out their prices - the Balenciaga Classique (in plum) can be hired for £80 per month. There are cheaper options though - for instance the Louis Vuitton Monogram Pochette is just £25 for the month.

I'm not suggesting that many of us could afford to do this every month - but wouldn't it be great to carry a statement handbag when you have a particular event without it costing you a fortune? Or to try out a bag for one month that you are intending to purchase just to confirm that you absolutely love it before you part with all that hard earned cash. There is a huge selection including Mulberry, Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Prada and Chloe.

Ladies in the US can log onto From Bags To Riches or Bag Borrow or Steal for the same service. I'd love to k now what you think? Is this something you'd use?

Fall fashion trend: plaid

You can usually guarantee that when Jessica Simpson steps out wearing a particular trend then it's going to be big. I loved this blue plaid coat Jessica was photographed wearing last week and it got me thinking that this is probably a trend that's hear to stay, for a few months at least. The UK high street has really picked up on this and if you browse online you'll see that there is a lot on offer. I was quite taken with this coat from the new 'Love Label' range at LX Direct for £80. It's not something you'll be able to wear again next winter but if you wear it to death this year then you'll get your money's worth.

You'll have heard me say this before...but i'll say it again: a great way to update your look and incorporate a new trend inexpensively is with accessories. These shoes by Faith for £50 would add a lot of interest to black trousers or jeans, without looking over the top. The hat, from River Island is just £12.99. So what do you all think of this trend? Is it a yay or a nay?

Primp for breast cancer

Shopbop have just launched a few stunning new designs by Primp. Not only are they cute, but 50% of the proceeds of each tee will be donated to the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization. The long sleeve thermal which comes in grey or cream is perfect for this time of year.
