Rate her Outfit: Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan shopping at Dior on Rodeo Drive this week. What do you think of her outfit? Leave a comment and be as brutal or as nice as you please.

St Tropez Everyday

I started using St Tropez Everyday moisturiser last week and i'm very impressed. This is a moisturising lotion with a small amount of fake tan incorporated, therefore gradually building up a natural looking tan ~ basically a more expensive version of Johnson's Holiday Skin.

I paid £8.99 (retail is £12.95) plus shipping from eBay at
Tanning Etc, where the service was excellent ~ next day delivery! They currently don't have this item listed so if you'd like to try it I would email them and ask if they will be re-stocking. It's selling out fast as it's only just been released and promises to be another must-have product gracing the pages of all the top fashion mags.

It's perfect for me as i've never been able to get the hang of a 'proper' fake tan, which always ends up streaky and orange. This product comes in two shades: fair or medium/dark. I'm seriously hooked on this stuff and think it may blow a hole in my beauty budget this year!

Plaid: In or Out?

I thought it would be fun to do a weekly poll about what you all think is in or out. The poll is located in the right sidebar so why not cast your vote now? Each poll will be displayed for seven days and the results will be posted at the end of each seven day period.

Starting off this week with 'plaid'...or 'check' as some people may call it. Jessica Simpson has been seen wearing plaid shirts (mainly by super-expensive label Great China Wall) throughout 2006 but I kind of thought this was going to be a fleeting trend, so I never indulged in it. However, all these plaid shirts and dresses keep popping up amongst the spring ranges so perhaps I was wrong?

Pictured clockwise from top left: Dorothy Perkins, ASOS £25 (are ASOS taking the mick with this pricing or what?!), River Island £21.99 and Topshop £25. Those readers in the US will find this look at good old Forever 21.

Kate Middleton: New Style Icon

Kate Middleton, the 24 year old girlfriend of Prince William, has attracted significant press coverage of late with continuous comparisons to Princess Diana. The media seems to want to portray her as a 'fashion icon' in the making, with People magazine commenting that Kate has "stepped up her style to royal heights".

Kate recently landed herself the job of Assistant Buyer of Accessories for British label
Jigsaw, confirming that it's often 'who you know' rather than 'what you know'(the owners of Jigsaw are a close family friend of Kate's). I must say though, this is a smart move on their part - Kate Middleton could do for Jigsaw what other celebrity endorsements have done for so many brands.

Kate does certainly have a great deal of elegance about her. You can see this from her dress-down attire which is usually understated and chic. Cowboy boots or slouchy boots make her outfits young and fun. Although she has the tall and slender figure for it, you would never see Kate out in a skirt much above her knee. The look is safe, not daring, and it makes no statement. It is neat, co-ordinated and appropriate for a potential future queen.

There has been little published about the designers and labels Kate is actually dressing in. However, Kate obviously wears Jigsaw which fits with her classic look and The Telegraph has reported that she is a regular at
Katherine Hooker for their fitted blazers at £425 a pop. Her bags are by Longchamp. Reassuringly, it has also been known for her to step out in Topshop.

She's no style icon yet, but with designers queuing up to dress her, access to personal stylists and the figure and looks to carry it off, it won't be too long before she's moulded into one.

It's All About the Volume

This Spring is most definately all about the volume. In the sleeves that is. All over the runway shows puffed-out or bell sleeves were on show and this is a look that has already filtered down on to the high street. The majority of Topshop's online offering currently incorporates this trend. I think it's quite a cute look and will make your outfit look instantly up to date. I'm not sure how this will fair with girls with chunky arms - it could look unflattering but I guess it's just a case of trying it out in the shops. The following are all by Topshop:

Lily Allen: Unlikely Choice of Chanel?

It has been recently reported that Lily Allen could be the new face of high fashion label Chanel, following in the footsteps of Kate Moss and Nicole Kidman. The 21 year old singer/songwriter, who is known for her chav-like gold jewellery and trainers teamed with vintage prom-style dresses and who has been expelled from several schools, seems like an unlikely choice.

This girl certainly has attitude and has commanded a lot of media attention since she catapulted onto the scene, but the face of Chanel? Hmmm...i'm not so sure. What do you think the rationale behind this move could be? Chanel is a luxurious, expensive and sophisticated brand. Lily Allen is a chav. Simple as that.

The Sun newspaper commented that "Karl Lagerfield is convinced her signature style ??chav meets couture ??is going to be THE look of 2007". We shall see.

What do you think? Yay or nay?

Is it a yay or nay to this wool check bomber jacket? Is plaid and check very much in, on it's way out or totally out? You might just be able to sneak a peak at the inside label for the brand, but if you can't see it then i'm not going to tell you where it's from! I don't want to influence your opinions by informing you of brand and price. If you like it, what would you wear it with?

Jessica Simpson and John Mayer

Petite Jessica Simpson and her tall new boyfriend John Mayer. What do you think of height differences? I'm only 5'3 but always go for men who are around 6 foot tall. Someone once told me that shorter people will often be attracted to taller than average people. Their subconscious is telling them to, so that together they would produce offspring of an average height. Well, whatever, Jess looks happy, that's the main thing.

Celebrity Fashion Find: Little Miss Bad

The gorgeous Hayden Pannettiere was photographed at L.A airport this week wearing this cute and comfy Little Miss Bad hoodie by Junk Food which is available now for only £34.99 at Truffle Shuffle 80s Clothing Ltd. I just bought mine quick before I posted here as I know they'll sell out super-fast just like Britney Spears' Little Miss Sunshine one has. This site has amazing customer service and offers same day despatch. Celebrities are going crazy for this merchandise at the moment - I recently posted about Britney's little sis wearing Little Miss Naughty.

While you're at Truffle Shuffle take a look at some of the other edgy tees, as they are perfect for spring and summer. This is a great way to look cool and casual when paired with jeans. Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan wearing Junk Food t-shirts:

Crazy for Primark

Over the last couple of years i've had a love-hate relationship with Primark. Love the prices, hate the reality that it's pretty much impossible to actually purchase anything at Manchester's city centre store on a Saturday afternoon.

My prayers were answered recently when a huge brand new store opened up 20 minutes drive from me in a fairly quiet town. I visited for the first time around midday last Saturday and couldn't believe what a dream it was to shop there.

Yes, there were are few teenage girls milling around but it was peaceful and the shop looked unrecognizably neat. I reckon i'll be there every couple of weeks now. I'd gone in to town to find a fitted red cardigan and spotted one in Primark right away for just £8. Ahhh...shopping bliss. This truly is guilt-free buying

Primark is most definitely here to stay and has become one of the most influential stores on the UK high street, leading the huge slash in prices we've seen in recent years. One of the main reasons they can charge such low prices (dresses for £10, belts for £2, tops for £4) is that they NEVER spend money on advertising, instead relying on word of mouth and media buzz.

The buzz that surrounds Primark never ceases to amaze me. The black and white retro print mini dress pictured above is a knock off of the Chloe dress worn by Kate Bosworth and retails at £10 in stores now. It has already popped up on eBay selling for 3 or 4 times this price. Now that's just crazy. Will Primark ever start selling online so that those girls living miles from a store no longer have to pay such a premium on eBay?

The Look for Less: Jimmy Choo Ramona

The Jimmy Choo Ramona (pictured on the right) has proved a big hit, with Jessica Alba and Lindsay Lohan picking one up in every colour. It's an understated bag which is easy to match with most outfits. However, the £1150 price tag is not so nice. River Island have brought out this white bag (pictured on the left) for £29.99 ~ looks kind of similar don't you think?!

Trend Watch: White and Metallic

The turnout at the Golden Globes has quashed any doubt that white and metallic will be a huge trend throughout 2007. I've never seen one trend so obvious on a single night and many of the actresses must have felt just a little unoriginal. Reese Witherspoon stole the show for me in her 'cute as a button' short bright yellow dress and contrasting red shoes.

Wearing Today

This outfit is nothing too exciting or inspiring but i'm just going out for dinner with friends. I'm also wearing some chunky black and clear crystal bead bracelets I bought in the Topshop sale. I love this black tunic style top from Dorothy Perkins but i'd only wear it with a wide waist belt as it looks too shapeless for me otherwise. I know i'll get loads of wear out of this and it was only £18.

Thank you for all your suggestions for a black waist belt. I found this one from NEXT (item 101 163 X39) for only £12.99 and it fits well. It's not perfect (it has a croc effect and looks a bit shiny - it's fine against black but worn with a bright colour I think it would look cheap) but will do until I find something better. Balenciaga's New Bags - Tacky or Tasteful?

I don't think many fashion insiders estimated the impact the Balenciaga Motorcycle style bag would have. I believe it has exceeded all expectations and has established itself as a classic. Sienna Miller has carried her small black Balenciaga for several years now and is still rarely seen without it. This says a lot in a world of fickle celebrities.

Die-hard Balenciaga fans have been debating on online forums about the recently released bags from this amazing fashion house and it appears that the new direction of the bag is certainly not to everybody's liking. The subtle silver hardware of past has been replaced by bright, shiny, gold, textured, hardware, with the studs noticeably larger than on previous ranges. Here is exactly what i'm talking about:

What attracted me to the original Balenciaga bags more than any other bag ever produced was it's understated elements. It's not a 'showy' or 'flashy' bag. This is a bag that oozes class and sophistication whilst being edgy and contemporary. The shiny gold, larger than life, hardware is a vast contrast. Too much of a contrast. The word 'tacky' springs to mind. What's your opinion? Is it a yay or nay?

Fortunately, this gold hardware is a 'special edition' offering and customers can still choose to have the original style silver hardware. I'm not completely negative about this range - the warmth of the gold does look good against 'truffle', a gorgeous mid-brown. Anyhow, a new range will do just fine with a bit of celebrity endorsement and Nicky Hilton and Cameron Diaz have already shown their support:

Trend Watch: Blue

Blue is definitely my favourite colour. I love that it seems to suit everybody, regardless of skin tone or hair colour. For several years on the trot a different shade of blue has been prominent for spring and summer. This year it's cobalt blue. Cobalt appeared all over the runway shows [from left: Alberta Ferretti, Balenciaga, Chloe and Christopher Kane] and has already made it's way into the new spring ranges that are just beginning to appear on the UK high street:~

Please Help Me find...

A wide black waist belt. I feel like i'm going mad. This is supposed to have been one of the biggest trends of 2006 to be continued right through for at least another season, according to the Spring/Summer 2007 fashion shows. So why can't I find one?

I have so far only limited myself to looking at UK stores as i'd really like the opportunity to try it on before buying, considering fit is so important. If I order online from a UK based store then at least returns are painless enough.

I'm very late jumping on the 'waist belt bandwagon' so I only have myself to blame. It's Sod's Law that now I finally decide I MUST have one, all the black waist belts ever manufactured have now disappeared off the face of the Earth. Fashion is so full of highs and lows.

P.s. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be most grateful ;-)

Deals and Steals at Scoop NYC

I've been so slow off the mark this year that I've basically missed out on all the sales. I picked up a few items in Topshop but that's pretty much it. Unbelievably, considering we are now nearing the middle of January, there are a few genuinely amazing deals still around online. I couldn't believe my eyes when I started browsing the Scoop NYC sale!

They still have Juicy Couture fur hoodies in black and cream for only $159. HURRY if you've always wanted one of these as I doubt you'll ever find one at a better price. I'm told that this is a must-have item!

The infamous Kors 'Newton' wedge shoe, which has been worn by an endless list of celebrities throughoput 2006, is now just $39. Those of you with size 7 or 7.5 (me!) prepare to be disappointed. All other sizes are available. Finally, those of you who are sick of the skinny jean trend and yearn for something with a universally-flattering bootcut won't want to miss these Citizens of Humanity Ingrid Flare now only $119.

Spring Brights

I'm so looking forward to Spring and I can't stop thinking about what i'll be wearing. From reading through a stack of fashion magazines it's become completely clear that bright colour will be everywhere. I received an email from urban outfitters today that included the following three outfits which I just LOVE. Lots of people are scared to wear two colours together but just look how fantastic the model in the middle looks teaming purple with teal green. This teal green cardigan and cobalt blue vest are now on my Spring wishlist.

Nicole Richie's Look for Less

Nicole Richie has become something of a fashion icon and that's no surprise when she steps out in outfits like this. Black and white stripes are going to be really big again this coming spring/summer season and the designer of this cute little tee only £18 new in at Dorothy Perkins surely must have taken their inspiration from Nicole.

Speaking of eBay...Great Deal on OPI

I came across a great deal on eBay the other day - OPI nail varnishes for a little over £2.50 each. I bought two bottles from Lyn's Nail Supply (store added to my 'recommended eBay sellers' located in the right sidebar) who have over 200 colours listed.

They are being sent from America so will take about a week to get here but who cares, I can be patient when it's that cheap. The seller quoted me $6 (approx £3) for international shipping of 1-3 bottles. OPI nail varnish retails at around £9 in the UK so you can appreciate what a bargain this is. See, eBay really is a treasure trove.

I chose Lincoln Park After Dark, a very deep dark matte purple which has almost acquired a cult-like following and Italian Love Affair. This is cute pale pink, perfect for summer, and is the actual shade chosen by Madonna for her wedding to Guy Richie. As you probably already know i'm a sucker for celebrity endorsement. What are you favourite OPI colours? What shade do you want to buy next?

Oh, the Joys of Sale Shopping

There's nothing quite like the feeling of getting a good deal is there? Hours of trawling through the online sales all becomes worthwhile when you find a gem - an item you love at an unbelievable price. Lately I've been searching around eBay a lot more and have found some fantastic deals but it's time consuming and so disappointing when somebody else beats you to it (Grrr...how dare they bid higher five seconds from the end).

Well, disappointments aside i'm chuffed to pieces with what I just got in the mail in the Misamu sale (crazy prices, many upto 70% off - use code BGLAM for a further 20% off!) - a
Velvet Nicolette Ruched Top in black. I'm now on the hunt for a short chunky bead necklace to wear with it ~ like Ashlee Simpson's in blue or red for a pop colour.

My top sale picks are: Citizens of Humanity Pistol Ava Straight Jeans Black (a fave of Sienna Miller and Kate Moss, Gold Hawk Malt Basic Cami Grey (style seen on Jessica Simpson), Splendid Reversible Thermal Top Navy (perfect for spring - nautical will be big again), Mint Pleat Neck Tank Multi (prints will be a big hit throughout 2007).

Always in Fashion: Luxurious Leather

Leather jackets are never far from being totally in. Occasionally, they go slightly out of fashion but it's never for very long. They are certainly right on trend now. Young Hollywood cannot get enough of fitted leather bomber jackets and the label of choice is most definitely Mike and Chris. If you've got cash and want a piece of this trend for yourself then Mike and Chris would be my only recommendation.

There are several styles to choose from but my favourite is the Mike and Chris 'Clark' distressed leather hoodie, as seen on Jessica Alba, Angelina Jolie, Jessica Simpson and Christina Aguilera. Shop Mava stock this in black or wine for $895 (use code JSTYLE for 20% off). This is to die for and really is something you'll be wearing in years to come.

There are some good alternatives on the high street if you look hard enough. It's possible you could even get lucky and find something in the January sales. Online, here's my pick of the best. Clockwise from top left: Topshop leather bomber £120, Miss Selfridge washed leather jacket £90, Warehouse berry jacket £120 (also comes in black and green) and River Island tan jacket £120. My fave is the Miss Selfridge one because I love the look of washed leather - I just think this looks so soft and chic and £90 is a fantastic price.

Trend Over-kill?

In my recent post Spring 2007 Fashion Watch I forecasted that hot pink and wide black belts, amongst other things, would be right on trend for spring 2007.

In true Hollywood celeb style Lindsay Lohan is way ahead of the fashion game. She hasn't just stopped at incorporating two major trends, she's gone one step further - the mini-dress is another trend you'll be seeing a lot of over the coming months. Lindsay clearly knows her stuff.

BUT, it doesn't quite work does it? I can't decide whether that's because it's a case of trend over-kill or whether hot pink just aint Lindsay's colour.

Is it true? Kate Moss married Pete Doherty

Rumour has it that Kate Moss and Pete Doherty got married yesterday, New Years Day, in Thailand. Here's the photograph that's stirred the controversy further:~ Kate Moss dressed in white Galliano having her picture taken. Continue on to read the Daily Mail story...

The Daily Mail reports:

"The couple exchanged vows before a select few friends and family members in a forty minute ceremony held at their six star hotel villa overlooking the sea.The presence of Miss Moss?™s personal assistant perhaps to help plough through beaurocratic red tape - and Kate?™s mother Linda and brother Nick being at the ceremony in Phuket - are being seen as an indication that a formal legally-binding ceremony took place.

After seeing in the New Year under a £100,000 fire works display alongside other hotel guests including the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, and her daughters Beatrice and Eugenie, the 32-year-old supermodel and Doherty, 27, retired to bed shortly before 1am, ahead of their big day.
Miss Moss is understood to have warned Doherty against late nights of drugs consumption in Thailand, where such behaviour can carry the death penalty.

Yesterday the pair were awoken with a room service breakfast before preparing, in different rooms, for the ceremony. At 1.30pm Thai time - 6.30am UK time - the Babyshambles singer and Miss Moss exchanged vows in the picturesque private gardens of their five-bedroomed £4,500-per-night villa at the Amanpuri hotel.

Wearing a white Galliano shift dress and her blonde hair loose, Miss Moss looked on adoringly at her groom, who was dressed in an all-black linen suit and his trademark pork pie hat.For the ceremony, the gardens and villa were decorated with flower petals, fragrant jasmine, orchids and a floral archway. White and pale pink lotus flowers decorated the pool. With security at a maximum, staff guarded the perimeter of the villa, preventing any uninvited guests from wandering in."

But on the other side of the fence The People reports:

Despite reports, Kate Moss and Pete Doherty did not marry in a Buddhist ceremony in Thailand, according to her publicist. "Contrary to various entirely false media reports today, there has not been any kind of marriage ceremony in Thailand. She is on holiday," her spokesman, Stuart Higgins, said in a statement Tuesday.

Britain's Sun and Daily Mirror had reported that the model, 32, and the Babyshambles frontman, 27, tied the knot in a candlelit ceremony on New Year's Day in the Thai resort of Phuket. Moss was spotted driving a Jeep in Phuket late last week and Doherty arrived in the country over the weekend. A source tells PEOPLE that on Monday the couple sent text messages to pals in Britain wishing them a happy New Year, but did not mention a wedding.

Since meeting at her birthday party in January 2005, the couple have had a turbulent relationship marked by Doherty's repeated arrests for drug possession and Moss's rehab stint after photographs were published of her snorting a white powder in a London recording studio. Rumors of the couple marrying have circulated for months. In October, they were seen browsing at a jewelry shop in Italy, and the following week Doherty was stopped by fans in a London street and asked if he would wed Moss. "Yeah, soon," he replied. Moss has a 4-year-old daughter, Lila Grace, whose father is her ex-boyfriend, fashion magazine publisher Jefferson Hack.

What do you think? True or not? If it's true let's hope she got a pre-nup!

Happy New Year!

I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year! May 2007 bring you everything you deserve. My current favourite saying (by Paul 'Bear' Bryant) is "If you believe in yourself
