Shemagh Scarves STILL on Trend???

When I posted last March (2007) about the rising popularity of 'Shemagh Scarves' the post caused quite a stir (click here to read) with well over 25 comments. It was a very interesting debate about whether it was 'right' for westerners to wear them as a fashion statement given their historical/cutural meaning. It's well worth a read if you have 5 mins to spare. Well, anyway, I never bought one and I haven't seen them about much at all (a ton of other styles have popped up in their place...Tolani, Sir Alistair Rai, Love Quotes etc) until just this week when I saw this picture of Gossip Girl's Taylor Momsen sporting a hot pink one! Whether it's right or wrong, Taylor undoubtedly looks cute in hers...makes me want one all over again.

I've been looking for a tan/brown leather bag for the past few weeks, mainly scouting out eBay and the high street stores as I didn't want to spend more than about £5o. River Island has a few on offer but they all look too 'new', plus I keep seeing girls wandering down the street wearing them so they're hardly unique. Out shopping in London today I spotted this gorgeous buttery soft vintage style bag by Topshop Boutique - available for £50 online. The stock photo does it absolutely zero justice, i'm thinking as I stare at it just now hanging in my closet. £50 seems a complete bargain considering i'm positive this will be one buy i'll still be toting around in 5 years, or 10 years...or even 20 years time!

I was intrigued by the red bracelet i'd seen on Lauren Conrad's wrist in just about every single photograph of her. Browsing Aldo Online I came across this white metal watch currently on sale for £24.95 (FREE shipping too!). It reminds me a lot of the highly coveted Chanel J12 watch which retails for more than 100 times the price of this Aldo find. The photo of the Aldo watch isn't so clear but I imagine in real life the band is just as chunky and bright white looking as the J12. The two row diamond (ok, cubic zirconia) rim gives a very similar effect to the J12, especially from afar. It's a shame the Aldo version doesn't have the sharp black numbering to the face which I love about the J12 - this really is my dream watch. Dream being the operative word...only in my dreams would I ever own this.

Hilary Duff Keeps Her Clothes ON For FHM

The most recent issue of UK mens' magazine FHM has just hit the shelves, with Hilary Duff as this month's cover girl. Yes the shoot is sexy but it is definitely not what I'd expect from a magazine which usually displays topless shots. I wonder if FHM readers felt a little cheated to open the magazine and find Hilary very much fully clothed? The shots are tasteful, demure and wouldn't look out of place in ladies fashion mags such as Glamour or Instyle. The mini cropped leather biker jacket is right on trend and is a look that appears in the Kate Moss for Topshop collection. Good for you Hilary for not selling out and getting your kit off for money. What a great role model for young girls - this is one celebrity you won't see falling over drunk or photographed minus underwear.

Kate Winslet: Yay or Nay?

Kate Winslet attended the 16th Annual Bafta/LA Cunard Britannia Awards (now, that was a mouthful) a couple of days ago in Hollywood wearing a controversial dress.

This obviously wasn't a 'safe' choice. When presented with photographs like this I sometimes wonder what the intention behind the outfit was. Do celebrities wear off-the-wall outfits purely to cause controversy and ultimately column inches or are they simply exploring their own style and pushing the boundaries?

I'm not sure the metallic finish and texture of the gown sits well with the classic (almost frumpy) shape. I love the super-wide black patent belt (a must-have for your wardrobe) but not with this dress. The belt is too 'now' to be teamed with a shape of dress that is 'not now'. It's a bit like eating ketchup with ice cream...they just don't go well together.

What do you think? Is it a yay or nay? What elements of the outfit work and which fail miserably? I'd LOVE to hear your comments.

Handbag of the Week: Topshop Washed Leather

My pick this week is a bag that I've actually just bought - the Topshop Leather Twist Lock Shoulder Bag [£45]. The bag quickly sold out in Black, so I had to search for mine on eBay and 'won' one for just over £37 plus shipping. Tan (great if you wear a lot of browns, greens and creams) and red are currently available online. I've seen silver and purple in stores. What attracted me to this bag was the size (medium - I needed something bigger than a clutch but smaller than my usual day bag), its' stylish vintage-look, and the price (very reasonable for a leather bag with plenty of style). I think the designer was inspired by the highly sought after Botkier Bianca. Do you agree? Here's the photo taken by my eBay seller.
